A good day at Starbucks
Yesterday before I was going to my small group Bible study, I decided to stop at Starbucks to review the lesson before I taught. While I was studying, I looked up and saw a familiar sight, the "oh my gosh i haven't seen you in forever" girl meeting. It was obviously 2 college girls that were apparently home for some kind of break and are meeting up for coffee. I smiled at this as I remembered all the times I had meet my friends when coming home and then continued to study.
Of course after these two got their coffee, they sat down next to me and a little bit into their very enthusiastic conversation I thought I heard the word God used in a good sense. My interest was peaked, and though I didn't want to pay attention to what they were saying a be that creeper in the coffee shop, I also was curious to know if they were genuinely talking about God. Thankfully for me, girls are not known for being that quite and soon I learned that these were two girls that I think were in a small group together when they were in youth group. They had gone to two different colleges and were involved in different kinds of ministries. Each of them began to describe all that God had done in and through their lives that year at school.
Now before you think that I was completely eavesdropping, I did talk with these ladies and had a conversation with them, which is how I found out my information. I walked over to them as I was leaving and introduced myself as a youth director and told them what a blessing it was to hear some of their stories. They apologized for being so loud, and of course I told them that was unnecessary. What encouraged me about these two ladies, was not only the passion in which they talked about all that God was doing in their lives, but knowledge that it began when they were in youth group. They not only took the principles that they had learned in their own small group and applied it to their lives, but they continued the friendship and relationship that were built at that time.
I know that there are no cookie cutter Christians, and everybody's walk with Christ will look different, but i also know that we should all share a couple of inherit traits that I found in these ladies. We are to love the Lord, and show that by loving others. It comes out in different ways and shapes, but is it coming out of your life. If someone were to hear your conversation at Starbucks, would they leave like I did being encouraged about what God is doing in the lives of people everywhere? Or would they just chalk you up as just another teenager and wander "what is happening to the world today"?
